Joel is an illustrator based in the village of Westport, Ontario, Canada. He is a graduate of Sheridan College’s Illustration program.

Some of the many things Joel loves to draw are portraits, maps and travel postcard illustrations.

He enjoys the imagery of early Canadian lumberjacks, Great Depression imagery, winter landscapes and vintage tinted photographs.

Joel has designed over 30 coins for The Royal Canadian Mint, including coins commemorating the Last Spike, The Battle of Neuve-Chappelle, and The Battle of Ortona. In 2020 his first ever circulation coin was released, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter, and in 2022 the Mint released Joel’s illustration on a toonie, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Summit Series.

When he isn’t busy with any of the above, he enjoys throwing sticks with his beagles, Pistache and Spudd (rest in peace Peanut, we miss you), playing basketball (not with the beagles though), reading, travelling and sketching outdoors.

Joel shares a studio with his wife Chantal Bennett, who is also an illustrator. They are working on an ongoing project together called Every Chip Stand where they have the ambitious goal of illustrating every chip stand in Ontario (and some beyond).
