This illustration appears in today’s National Post on the cover of the Arts & Life section. The Month Ahead illustrations are accompanied by a calendar of the coming month’s events. I loved working in this large format and it was a lot of fun to come up with something that worked in a 6″ x 21″ size.
My ideas for this assignment centered mostly around gardening and flowers in bloom, but this one is more of a Mother’s Day image. I wanted to do a tribute to mothers, and to my mother.

Very Beautiful Joel. Your Mother for Mothers Day, the flowers and especially the Swan, because for the first time last summer, in Sturgeon Falls, we had a pair of Swans and 3 Babies living here, I saw them everyday in front of my home.
