San Francisco Bay Guardian Cover Illustration

I just wrapped up the illustration for this cover of the San Francisco Bay Guardian on the weekend (give it a click to see it larger and less blurry).

San Francisco Bay Guardian – Cover Illustration

This piece is about Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and his bid to bring America’s Cup (yacht races) to San Francisco Bay. Apparently he’s been a bit of a swashbuckling pirate in his dealings with the city to attract the yacht competition, and we decided to portray him as one.

I had some embarrassing photo reference taken of me dressed in pirate attire, holding a replica blunderbuss, that I used for the pose (if you follow me on Twitter -@joelkimmel, you may have seen it, sorry).

It’s always exciting to work on a cover. If you’re in San Francisco you can pick this up this week.
