Fresh Foods – Philadelphia City Paper

Spring Vegetables

Interior - Philadelphia City Paper

Here are some fresh new illustrations for Philadelphia City Paper’s spring foods issue. I illustrated the cover and a large interior illustration showing some glistening spring veggies making their way to the frying pan. I’m really happy with the design on these, I think it all works very well together.

Some of my favorite vegetables are represented, notably asparagus and artichokes. Artichokes are really just fun to eat, and with a nice dipping sauce they are pretty tasty too.

Here’s a quick recipe for artichoke dipping sauce, thanks to Martha Stewart:

In a small bowl, stir together 3/4 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise and 1 or 2 minced garlic cloves (a garlic press works best here). Season with coarse salt and ground pepper.

There you have it. Just steam your artichokes for 25-40 minutes and you have a tasty appetizer. Enjoy!

    Beautiful illustrations as always.
I like the way you use colours in your illustrrations.
Are they digital or the old school way?

Thank you! All the line work is inked traditionally and the colors are both watercolor and digital.
