Solar Rights

This piece was done for Canadian Lawyer magazine. It accompanies an interesting article about solar rights. If you put solar panels on your roof, there are no laws in place to stop developers from building around you and blocking the sun’s rays from reaching your solar panels.

I wanted to show a dimly lit street and a small shop with solar panels – the light blocked from reaching them by taller buildings and new developments.

One of my favorite places to go in New York was the Financial District on a Sunday. It is always so quiet and the streets are only dimly lit by the sunlight because the buildings are so tall and close together. I was trying to achieve something similar with this illustration.
