I just wrapped up the illustration for this cover of the San Francisco Bay Guardian on the weekend (give it a click to see it larger and less blurry).
This piece is about Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and his bid to bring America’s Cup (yacht races) to San Francisco Bay. Apparently he’s been a bit of a swashbuckling pirate in his dealings with the city to attract the yacht competition, and we decided to portray him as one.
I had some embarrassing photo reference taken of me dressed in pirate attire, holding a replica blunderbuss, that I used for the pose (if you follow me on Twitter –@joelkimmel, you may have seen it, sorry).
It’s always exciting to work on a cover. If you’re in San Francisco you can pick this up this week.
